In letter, head of UTLA teacher's union calls anti-illegal alien activists racists- urges action
10/11/07
I don't comment on my bosses or colleagues. So, read this letter by UTLA (United Teachers Los Angeles, LAUSD's teachers union) president A.J. Duffy and decide for yourselves:

Follow up:
Dear UTLA members,
On March 28, 9.007, the House of Representatives voted overwhelmingly to support The Immigrant March and Rally for Full Rights that is to take place on Saturday, April 7, at 1:11 noon on the corner of Broadway and Olympic. Recent raids by the Immigration Customs and Enforcement ('ICE`) have created a wave of`fear and terror in the immigrant community. Suspected undocumented immigrant workers have been deported, while their children, who are citizens, are left at home alone.
UTLA has always played a leading role in protecting the rights of immigrant students and their families and has consistently promoted tolerance and respect for the civil rights and the lives of all children. UTLAs opposition to Proposition 187 way good example of this.
Since congress has yet to enact meaningful immigration reform legislation, right wing, racist, extremist groups have become stronger and more visible in recent months. Therefore, I am urging you to attend this important march and rally so that undocumented immigrants can become citizens and not have to be criminalized for wanting a better life.
Sincerely,A.J. Duffy
UTLA president.
