SGT Eddie Jeffers R.I.P.

09/20/07

My blogging buddy, the beautiful Flag Gazer, informed me of the passing of a soldier whose father contributed to her wonderful site. I pray for the day when such reports are anachronisms.

Just read Sgt. Jeffers' article "Hope Rides Alone" - and learned of his passing at the same time.

From one OIF veteran to another and his family, thank you Sgt. Jeffers for having the insight, courage, and wisdom to speak up, and to do so with such eloquence.

It is interesting to note that to date, four U.S. soldiers who have submitted such editorials to the Free Press have been KIA in Iraq, by one means or another.

RIP Sgt. Jeffers - job well done.

De Oppresso Liber,

G. Walker

I was moved by Sgt. Eddie Jeffers writings. They were insightful, powerful and piercing. I have corresponded with his Dad. I grieve his death.

When I learned that he had died from his Dad, I was inspired to write the following poem.

May he rest in peace,

Cliff Jones

Eddie Rides With Jesus

In a dangerous, deadly, hostile land,
Rode a brave and courageous man.
He fought evil and despair,
Around every corner, everywhere.

He had ideals, dreams and goals,
Keeping his men alive and whole.
Sgt. Eddie loved his brave men,
And fought to get them home again.

He wrote from his heart so deep,
From his pain and made us weep,
For the truth he penned cut like a knife,
To the heart and soul of American life.

We suffer not as our soldiers die,
We go on our way and pass by,
The crippled veteran, the sad bride,
Whose husband bled and died.

Our soldiers give their blood, their life,
In an effort to end the horrible strife,
Should not we support and care for them,
As they fight to protect us from harm?

Let us change! Start something new!
Show our troops we love them too!!
Let’s get off our duffs, get busy now,
And show them we know when and how!

Send them cards, cookies and cheer,
Do it from our hearts and sincere.
Love them and let them know we care,
In every way, and all through the year!!

Sgt. Eddie has not died in vain,
His cause is ours, we will remain,
Faithful to the dreams he held so dear,
Freedom, freedom both far and near.

Sgt. Eddie has left the scene,
He rests with Jesus, so serene,
His duty done, in a distant land,
His hope has reached a peaceful end.

Eddie’s hope no longer rides alone,
He rides with Jesus, no more groans,
His head held high, feeling joy unbounded,
Through streets of gold with angels surrounded.

We miss you Eddie, wish you were here,
But we know God has called you up there.
Rest well Eddie, your mission is completed,
God’s love for you will never be depleted.

Father in Heaven, Please hold Eddie close to your heart,
Comfort him for us, even though we are apart.
Thanks for the years he lived with us too,
May his life bring great glory and honor to you.

We ask this in the Powerful Name of our Savior, Jesus Christ, and by his shed blood, in the Power of the Holy Spirit, Amen and Amen

Eddie was a one of a kind type of guy. He was a very kind and genuine person who along with his wonderful wife Stephanie helped me to cope with my brother PFC Stephen C. Benish's passing 2 years ago. I admired Eddie for his kind words about my brother as they were in the same unit together and Eddie was by his side when he was killed. I love Eddie's writing and also think that it will live on and that he was very wise beyond his years and he saw different aspects that some people's minds could not even comprehend. Eddie went through hell over there and now he is in Heaven, I hope and pray that Eddie and Steve find each other and rest in peace. I hope that one day there won't be any more Cindy Sheehans to tarnish their memories. The rest of their unit resides in my prayers daily.

My Name is Becky Jeffers, I am Eddie's younger sister. This has been the absolute most devastating thing to ever happen to me in my 21 years. Eddie and I were very close, so this is something I'm not sure I can recover from. But it is people like you all and others that give my heart peace. Knowing how much of an impact Eddie made on the world, gives me such a feeling of pride. Thank you all from the bottom of my heart for the thoughts, prayers, and everything else you have done to remember my beloved brother.

Eddie, your letter was tucked away in my heart, like an anthem while I spoke of the weather over the summer. You became my voice of the coalition in Iraq. I saw a beleagered Vietnam Vet, asking for food. Your letter was his voice, the sixties come to life because I never heard the soldiers' side of the story then. But I gave that vet some money and thanked him for his service. He looked at me like he had seen a ghost. He said God Love You. I turned and looked back at him because he was so dumbfounded. God love you too Eddie.

Thank you. Even though I didn't know him, it affected me strongly because your family was associated with Flag Gazer. Thank you for visiting and accept my sincere condolences.

God Bless You and your Family. We need many more people like your Son.

The State of the Union is weak as we fight each other.

"United we stand, divided we fall" We're falling.
