In this article, James Dobson makes the shocking pronouncement that a child is better off with a father and a mother. Who does it shock? Well, the author of a book he referenced in his column:
The fathering difference is explained by fathering scholar Dr. Kyle Pruett of Yale Medical School in his book Fatherneed: Why Father Care is as Essential as Mother Care for Your Child. Pruett says dads matter simply because “fathers do not mother.”1Psychology Today explains, “Fatherhood turns out to be a complex and unique phenomenon with huge consequences for the emotional and intellectual growth of children.”2 A father, as a male parent, brings unique contributions to the job of parenting that a mother cannot.
Now, all dobson said is echo the title of the Pruett's book, which itself is very clear. Why would an author mind being quoted accurately? Well, when the quoter is somebody he doesn't want to be associated with.
Besides the inner-PC workings of a university, whom does such an obvious and normal statement offend? This group called, ironically, Truth Wins Out.
This is another example of the equality fetish possessed by some of my fellow Americans; even the most obvious difference is attacked.
Thanks to Noel for the heads up on this article.
