Why celebrate New Years?

I've had fun during this Federal holiday, I'll have fun again, and I don't want to be a party-pooper, but what do people celebrate during New Year? Really. It's the most meaningless holiday we have.

Nah, I think Sweetest Day is the most useless; we already have Valentine's Day, so the former is an obvious scam to get women to guilt their men into buying one more card.
