First, marriage, then abortion, and now prostitution. Mexico City is wannabe San Francisco

06/13/07

Now that's progress. Mexico, the supposed home of millions committed to family values, is considering legalizing prostitution. According to the article, previous to this latest capitulation, Mexico City had already officially recognized gay unions and legalized abortion (It's odd that the least controversial is the last one to appear). I realize that I may be totally over-reacting, but assuming the same pattern evolves in Mexico as in the United States and Europe, Mexico is going to be just like the most most culturally liberal parts of the world, except poorer and more violent. They can now claim no advantage over their Northern neighbor, whereas before one could have said, "we may not have as many things, but we believe in family and tradition."

It's funny how we expend so much effort to capture at least some of the decency of our fathers* while other countries just give up.

They may never have been competitive economically, but Mexicans had many things of which to be proud.

Come on, Mexico. You'll regret it in twenty years.

*Hey, God knows I have my faults and societies have never been perfect, but we should try, shouldn't we?

I'm sure you feel the same way if not worse about a church that currently rapes and sodomizes children.... I'm sure you are just too busy to mention it. I give you the benfit of the doubt.

It's sad to me because one could have said, in the past, that we may not have as many things, but we respect family and traditions. Now, they won't even have that.

Chris, you know I may have over-reacted a little.
