The Left reacts to Castro's retirement.
02/19/08
Liberals are a diverse lot. Some hard lefties would praise any critic of the United States while other principled liberals oppose oppression no matter which side of the assembly it comes from.
Mostly, the attitude seems to be pretty neutral. Some of the nonchalantness, I'm sure, is serious circumspection and horror at who is the West Hef tyrant of the century tempered by a resistance to hate the same guy us right wingers hate. Some of it may be an effort not to embarrass themselves. Remember, their big thing right now is protecting us from the CIA and FBI (FISA) so it wouldn't look good praising the leader of a police state that prohibits web access.
Daily Kos: Nothing yet.
Huffington Post: Strait news, but a nice (and typical) comment:
Let the Flag-Wavers cheer but I still have FAR MORE respect for Fidel Castro than I do for George W Bush.
(He certainly did more for His people than Puddin'head did for us...)
Crooks and Liars, consistent liars themselves, ironically.
Moral liberal and Pajama-mate Balloon Juice.
Anyways, I'll find more later. Here's my tribute.
