Michelle Obama's Princeton thesis

02/22/08

Story on Politico. I know that Michelle Obama is a smart woman-smarter than me, I'm sure, but since the thesis has to do with race, I can almost guarantee that that it's banal.

I wouldn't make a big deal out of it. I thought dumb things in college. You probably did. In fact, universities are often cesspits of naiveness and foolish ideas. By the way, Obama does especially well with this demographic.

Although I question that Michelle Obama actually posted this response I did read the thesis and found it to be of the highest academic quality. The blurbs in the newspapers did Ms. Obama a great diservice by selecting quotes which implied a racist intention exisited in this thesis. I do find that one can impune a personal struggle within Michelle as to her obligation to her race, and a fear she would lose her conviction that she owes the black community her dedication to helping it overcome the ravages of racism. My biggest fear is that many black sepratist individuals with the best intentions also end up becoming very much anti white. I have long felt that the Obama's are an enigma and that based on my perceptions of them and the association with Trinity Church I can not in good faith support Barack's candidancy or cast a vote for him. Frank Davis and Rev. Wright are Obama's "mentors" and to me they represent an unacceptable ideology which contributes to not only a separation of the races but a continuing world in which race hatred is endemic. It is quite sad as Barack is in many ways the man who possibly could bring us together but I can not risk taking a chance on making him President (as if my vote wil matter)

I wasn't particularly impressed. Princeton? Course, it could be sour grapes on my part,
