Hagee and McCain: The dumbest criticism of all time
02/29/08
McCain...
campaign issued the statement after two days of criticism from the Democratic National Committee, the Catholic League and Catholics United.
This is the single most hypocritical thing I've ever seen in a campaign. The Catholic League always complains, but Democrats griping about disrespect for religion?
So, Democrats, you don't think candidates should accept support from people who criticize or distort the record of the Catholic Church? Have you read what some of your secular supporters say about religion and churches in general? The Catholic church in particular? Such an anti-anti-Catholic policy would leave out about 50% of support for the Democratic party. Please Obama, in addition to rejecting Farrakhan, denounce Hollywood, most college faculty, etc. Oh wait: I get it. The only people who can't criticize Christians are other Christians. Pathetic.

No what was hypocritical was the fact that McCain had previously made a big issue of Gov. Bush speaking at Bob Jones university."In calls made to Michigan voters McCain's campaign personnel said that Bush "stayed silent [about] anti-Catholic bigotry...[while] seeking the support of Southern fundamentalists."
So it is just irony that he faces the same charge after extreme anti-Catholic Hagee endorses him and he accepts the endorsement without mentioning the problems with it. Hagee's anti-Catholicism is as extreme as a Chick Tract and Gov. Huckabee faced criticisms earlier in the season for speaking at this Church. So the issues has not exactly been a new one.
Certainly the media is quite anti-Catholic, but McCain was not proudly accepting their endorsements, bot this is a different matter. Though McCain's apology is sufficient.
I didn't know that. Thanks. Still, unless Democrats cast away Bill Maher, etc. i don't think they have a leg to stand on.
