Obama speech in Berlin

07/24/08

1. Nice history lesson on Berlin airlift. Berliners must know this stuff already, and I can't imagine they find it a little boring.

2. I don't know that American forces were all that "over-matched" either. We had an atomic bomb, after all. I know I'm not supposed to take this seriously, but it's pretty ho-hum stuff.

3. He says that determination won Berlin. Didn't George Bush's determination win Iraq?

4. Let's tear down the walls between religions and races. Pretty controversial stuff.

5. If you outlaw nuclear weapons, only outlaws will have nuclear weapons.

6. I'm not going to go nuts over Obama's "Citizen of the world" remark. One can't very well expect him to not be somewhat international in an overseas speech, and one can spin it positively if one were so inclined, "We have something in common with our international, freedom-loving brothers and sisters..." I will say, however, that Obama would make a better Secretary General of the United Nations than president. All he'd have to do is move around some useless beaureaucrats and give pretty speeches.
