Michelle Obama speech at Democratic convention

08/25/08

Pretty boring. A breathless, "you see" filled emotion-fest.

1. The fundamental Democratic party contradiction runs throughout the speech. That is, praising the hard work and character-building sacrifice of "working class" people and then wanting to make sure that nobody has to go through that by promising to "give" them stuff. Same with military.

2. Mention Hillary Clinton (pause-applause).

3. "The world as it just won't do." Well, get used to it.

4. The sister-wife stuff is boring. Sorry.

5. "I love this country."

6. "Barack believes in treating people with respect even if he disagrees with them." What about treating people with respect even if they're unrepentant terrorists?

7. Michelle Obama works in some diversity job at a hospital for over $300,000 a year and I have to thank her for that?

8. Change stuff.

9. This sounds like a dramatic reading at a casting session.

10. Her hair looks nice.

11. Whew!

12. Barack's review of his wife's speech is cringe-inducing.

13. "The Gerardo family have been great hosts." Yeah, I'm glad he didn't have to go to some clingy gun-nut's house.

14. Everybody from both sides, in print, radio, and television is saying how "beautiful" Michelle Obama is. I don't think Michelle Obama is ugly, but this gushing may be the visual equivalent of "articulate."
