Wamu, formerly Washington Mutual will shorten its name again to "Wa" in January. CEO Kerry K Killinger, Wa CEO explained the decision:
We felt that Wamu was a little difficult for people to remember. Spelling was an issue too. Our research showed that only 60% of high school graduates could spell "Wamu." They kept getting the internet address wrong and so forth. Over 80% can spell "Wa," however.
Environmentalists hailed the decision as a victory for planet sustainability. An Association of People who are Really Really Concerned About the Planet (APRRAP) spokesbeing, Lara Samuels, said that a shorter name means that less ink will be used for stationary.
Many analysts expect shortened-name race within the business world as the advantages become clear. Some of the biggest corporations are already planning their name changes. Walmart will be "Wal" in February, General Motors will be "General" in March, and I.B.M. will soon be "I."
