Cocodrilos Chupacabras and Senorita Laura Bozzo
09/02/07
This news item concerning the capture of the Chupacabras (finally, I can sleep at night), reminded me of a couple of songs from the Salvadorian group Los Cocodrilos. They make funny songs, but unlike Weird Al Yankovic, don't parody, but write their own music and comment on the topics of the day.
One of those topics is the Latino Lock Ness, the Chupacabras, an animal that would suck the blood from goats (cabras).
Follow up:
Anyways, they made a song about it. It's an OK Cumbia.
Listen to Chupacabras.
A funnier one is their parody of the Laura en America show (the wiki on her is interesting). Laura in America hosted by Laura Bozzo was the Jerry Springer of Latin America. The show would parade the poorest residents of Lima, Peru around stage to fight mainly, but they'd also get an opportunity to soak up Laura's fake compassion. It was a sad sight. Anyways, the main topic discussed on the show was the various ways in which cheating occurred throughout Peru. In one scene I happened to catch, a lollipop vendor claimed that a girl was just with her for his money.
The song is pretty clever with a chain of infidelity eventually leading to a donkey.
