Carmen Miranda: A Weekend in Havana

A young Carmen Miranda

Follow up:

At the time, Carmen Miranda must have been to Brazilians what Desi Arnaz was to Cubans and what somebody like Salma Hayek is to Mexicans and Arnold Schwarzenegger is to Austrians now: A local "done good" and a source, therefore, of national pride. I purchased her greatest hits and found it very pleasant. All of the tunes are guitar-driven light Samba- perfect for the musically adventurous mid-century Americans who made up Carmen's audience and very fine listening today.

This song is a nice reminder of a time when Cuba and the United States were very close partners. It's called A Weekend in Havana. It's the title song of a movie with the same name. I gotta check it out.

Listen to A Weekend in Havana.

The movie is the fun and hokey - typical of the genre of the time!

Carmen Miranda is so great! And, her costumes were always something to see!!!
