Random song of the Day: Hey Porter- Johnny Cash
02/21/08
This is how I'm doing the random song of the day: I fire up my Media Center (the one from Jriver not Microsoft), place it on "random," and press "play." First one up goes on the blog.
Here it is and it's a good one:
Hey Porter by Johnny Cash. Johnny Cash is the second best country singer in modern history behind Hank Williams Sr. His early songs are the best ones, as is usually the case with any popular music artist.

Nelson, your post about Johnny Cash's song "Hey Porter" brought back some fond memories of my dad, God rest his soul. Born in the year of the Great Crash in 1929, my father was definitely an "old school" country music fan, and the songs of Johnny Cash, including and especially playful ones like "Hey Porter", were some of his favorites. He was also a huge fan of Hank Williams Sr. And I also enjoyed listening to those country music songs with him, although ironically I never became much of a country music fan myself as I grew into adulthood (although I must admit I am to this day still partial to most any Johnny Cash or Hank Williams Sr. song that I happen upon, which isn't too often, to tell the truth). I guess it's primarily because their music that my dad and I shared the experience of listening to together represents a special part of our father-son bonding experience, something I will always treasure of course.
