LOS ANGELES — The nation's largest Roman Catholic archdiocese said Friday it has agreed to pay $60 million to settle 45 lawsuits alleging sex abuse by priests.
The deal is the most significant step to date toward resolving extensive litigation against the archdiocese that has dragged on for years.
"I pray that the settlement of the initial group of cases will help the victims involved to move forward with their lives and to build a brighter future for themselves and their families," Cardinal Roger Mahony said in a news release.
An archdiocese that cooperated with the victems of its neglect would have helped them move towards healing quicker, don't you think? Or, how about an archdiocese that placed the innocence of children above the well-being of pedophiles?
Nothing get me more angry than people I trust and even support betray their charge. I wouldn't feel comfortable with this situation if 60 billion dollars were paid out. I want those responsible excommunicated from the Church. Mahony is contemptable. And the Church he built is underwhelming to put it mildly. Yes, I've been there.
