Christmas mass in Ensenada, Mexico
12/25/07
For the second year in a row, I'm spending Christmas with my wife's family in Ensenada, Mexico. I just came back from mass and I'd thought I'd share some pictures. The name of the church is Sanctuario de Guadalupe. It's an easy translation, I think. Before the mass the priest held a doll representing Jesus and the faithful would come and kiss it, something I've never seen in the states.

The Church itself was very lovely.
Follow up:

People left candles and gifts for these three saintly representations. They are from left to right: Saint Jude, Saint Martin, and Saint Francis.

A nice creche.

A closer look at the stable.

This is, after all, El Sanctuario de Guadalupe.

Some nice art underneath the dome.

Have you heard of the Infant of Prague? In Prague, a statue, but many people have some small version of Him in their homes as a "doll" of sorts. I've seen dolls dressed up like him. He is supposed to be the infant Jesus but is usually dressed in Bishop's liturgical colors, like a little prince, with a crown, too. I have seen people kiss the doll before.
