Alberto Cutie joining the Anglican Church makes no sense.

Story here.

Alberto Cutie joined the Anglican Church today. My question is: Why not one of the Eastern Orthodox Churches? If Cutie knows anything about religion, he knows that the schismatic, as opposed to heretical, Orthodox Churches have valid ordinations and believe as Catholics do on the Eucharist, the dispensing of which is a priest's most important function. The Orthodox Churches allow priests to marry. I recommend Eastern Orthodoxy to friends who have some historical problem with Catholicism.

The Anglican Church started as a political response to the Catholic Church and is now known as a very liberal association. I suspect that politics is why Cutie made his choice.

Update: I find it hard to believe that Cutie gave communion for all of these years and then just didn't believe in it.

Politics may be it. Or perhaps he doesn't care about what the Roman Catholic Church holds to be valid. To each his own.

You're right that it makes no sense.
I guess we need to pray for him, because he seems pretty mixed up right now.
He's probably letting his emotions trump his reason.
But you know, the reason could be this: the Orthodox Churches allow a married man to be ordained, but they don't allow a priest to get married. Yes, that's the rule. So if a priest's wife dies, he can't remarry.
The best thing for him to do would be to go off for a retreat until his emotions calm down and he can listen to the Holy Spirit. If he really has a vocation to the priesthood, he should break off the relationship with the woman and do some penance.

The Anglican Church a political response?

The Anglican Church is simply that traditional Church that has been in the British Isles since 37 AD! (Gildas.) It was mentioned by Bede in about 750 AD, as simply the Anglican Church, this was repeated in 1215 at the signing of the Magna Carta. During the Medieval Years this was the title used in correspondence withg overseas churches including Rome. "Eglise le Angleterre.

In 1570 AD, when pope pius delivered his Fatwa and his minority of supporters left the English Church, the term Anglican was used to differentiate between the new,' Roman,'Church and the traditional Anglican one!

The Anglican Communion is not the traditional Anglican Church, the ancient Church holds to the Revelation of Christ, The Seven Councils as well as the Consensus of the Greek Fathers of the First Three Centuries! It holds to the Deposit of Faith without addition or subtraction! Where then has it ever held to error?

I doubt the Orthodox Church would accept a priest who professes love for the Catholic Church... and who moved to another denomination simply to have his cake and eat it too.

We should pray that Alberto come to the realization that this woman cannot love him as he thinks. She would not have insisted on being good friends, when she knew her intentions.
Let's pray that Alberto understands that his relationship with Father God, Jesus, and the Holy Spirit is what is important. After all, he will one day meet his maker for judgement. He is breaking one of the commandments, forget the church's laws. May he come to understand this and do what is right. Sex outside of marriage is a sin. So he broke a vow, but be careful breaking the commandments. So happy, especially for me, for God's mercy when we humble ourselves before HIM. We need to ask for it for each other and for him. IN JESUS' NAME!
