24 Season 6 debrief: Hint-Best season ever.
05/21/07
24 is one of the most consistent shows on television. It could be because of its writer's high standards or it could be because all of the seasons are pretty similar. Anyways, this was probably the best season, although one can take away a couple of points for the silly character retreads (Logan? Logan's wife! Really, now)
The last episode contained Jack's only recorded instance of bragging, "I'm pretty good at killing and disappearing." Otherwise, he was his own selfless, dutiful, Neutral Good self (or Chaotic Good. I can't decide). He also had a good contemplative stare moment at the end.
It's incredible when one thinks of how often the plot-and the villains- have changed this season. Indeed, how often in one day! From terrorists to lil' bro to Russian rogue to slimy White House aid to vice president to Chinese to dad. It's really kind of incredible.
One negative is that the writer's concern for realism faltered a bit this season. It's usually the case that most writers feel they need to escalate the incredible to keep things interesting. James Bond being the most notorious. It also happens that shows sometimes get lazy. The PDA/satellite/infrared thing was kind of incredible already. This season kind of crossed the line (seeing infrared silhouettes from a satellite? Is that possible?). There were also lapses in logic. As if CTU wouldn't have figured out that there was an abandoned oil rig six miles away from the beach(Abandoned yet rife with oil-filled drums ready to explode)! Come on, now.
And Jack going rogue or quitting CTU has got to end. At this point, CTU thinking that Jack's going to follow orders is like Charlie Sheen's girlfriend letting Charlie out of the house thinking this time he won't pick up a hooker.
See you next season.
I imagine seeing it on DVD would be a lot of fun.
Politics:
Ah. Who cares at this point? Just fun.
