Movie Review: Bolt- Not the most electrifying movie in the world
12/04/08

Like Toy Story, Bolt leaps over the state of animation to establish a new (cutting) edge. This somewhat cynical moviegoer saw the Bolt in 3D, as God intended, and was impressed with the attention to detail: Bolt animators pay as much attention to the blades of grass occupying the background and the extras walking around the set as they do to the main action, which is spectacular.
Bolt's plot is also similar to Toy Story. In fact, Bolt is pretty much Toy Story: Reloaded. Instead of a space toy with a hero complex, we have a dog, Bolt, who thinks he's a superhero. One can say that Bolt is a combination of Woody and Buzz, as Bolt must deal with the feeling that he's being rejected by his adolescent mistress, Penny, as Woody confronts his possible rejection by his owner.
Bolt leaves with a rejected cat (like the abandoned toys, in Toy Story) Mittens, to New York for reasons which didn't quite understood. They make their way back with the help of hamster/stalker, Rhino.
Interestingly, there isn't much of a antagonist. Bolt flees from an animal shelter and the network wants to cancel the show, but nobody pursues him, nor does Bolt have to foil a conspiracy. Maybe it's dog against road hazards.
The story is entertaining, but nothing especially clever. The most interesting part of the movie is the travel montage. Bolt travels cross-country, highway 40, probably. It's kind of patriotic.
Politics/Message:
No politics. Stay loyal to people, I guess.
