CCleaner does three necessary things without a hitch. First, it cleans out files you probably don't want. The internet files you can delete with your browser so it doesn't really provide too much benefit. Deleting ".bak," memory dumps, and ".tmp" is somewhat of a chore and this program does it automatically. Second, and this is my favorite feature, it takes care of your start menu, helping you to delete the surprising number of things that can delay the start of your computer. Windows Defender does the same thing, but I hear it's going to cost money in the future. The third thing CCleaner does is "clean" your registry. Why is this necessary? I don't know, but it performs this chore without hurting your computer and it might be important. Anyways, this program is free and worth the minute it takes to download.
