Phone review: LG VX8600
04/26/07

To replace the disappointing Samsung SCH i730, I purchased the excellent LG VX8600 from Verizon direct. It replaced the annoying Razr with its annoying volume issue as well as the Samsung i730 and its overall awkwardness. This is the best phone I’ve ever had.
I liked:
1. The Bluetooth works great.
2. The buttons are even better than the Razr’s which, I have to give it to Motorola, are good as well.
3. It’s very thin.
4. The buttons are easy to navigate.
5. The screen is good.
6. It plays music. With a 1GB micro-SD card, I can play a couple of hours of music. Music cameras should replace a good deal of non-hard disk mp3 players like the Nano. Most people use these to go to the gym or to go jogging. These people also usually take a phone. As Forrest Gump might say, “That’s one less thing.”
7. It connects my laptop to the internet through a cable or through Bluetooth; how convenient is that? I can access the internet from anywhere now without carrying a separate card (although I don't think it's as fast).
8. I guess I’m trying to say that the phone works as it should with no annoying glitches. It’s kind of like movie direction or acting-If I don’t notice it, it must be good.
9. It’s not as girly-stylish as the LG Chocolate vx 8500.
10. Camera is good. Easy download with SD card adapter.
11. Works with Bitpim so that I can transfer pictures and sync with Outlook. Bitpim is free, but for a little extra, the Verizon Office software works too.
12. The matte finish of the inside is a good effect.
Some nitpicks:
1. The screen is glossy and seems like it might be easy to scratch.
2. Common to all flip phones, a perfect case solution does not exist.
3. If you are Paris Hilton-girly and like pink electronics, you’re out of luck; it only comes in black.
Some additional advice: The cable I purchased can't recharge the phone from the computer using its USB port. This is very inconvenient as I have to carry the charger with me too. Get one that does. There's a link to one below:
