Ebay finally changes feedback policy
06/08/08

For years, the most absurd thing on the internet has been the fact that ebay sellers could hold perfect buyers hostage with the threat of negative feedback. Imagine: you buy a turntable and it comes broken (I don't have to imagine.). The man refuses to give satisfaction, but knowing how to game the system, hasn't given you your feedback despite your prompt payment. You let the matter drop rather than have your low total feedback number suffer disproportionately compared to his larger one.
It was a ridiculous system that prevented honesty and held down feedback scores. The buyer's responsibility is to pay. If he pays, he's a good ebayer. If he doesn't, he should never have the merchandise to rate.
According to the new rules, a seller can only leave positive feedback. He pays- boom! feedback. I guess if the guy pays late, you can decline to leave any feedback whatsoever. The buyer can still leave negative or positive. In addition, he can use star ratings for a more precise assessment, "Yes, it was a good product, but the shipment was a little late and the packaging skimpy." It's not perfect: If the buyer never pays, he can still give negative feedback, but it's an improvement. Maybe there should be a two stage feedback process where the buyer has no ability to feed back if he doesn't pay.

Your an idiot! Ebays new feedback policy will ruin ebay. Trust me ebay will either change it or fail! The old systemm was flawed for sure. But the new ststem is worse! Their are just as many scam artist as buyers as there is sellers!
I am an honest seller 7 years on ebay over 16,000 items sold. I've always had about 95% of my buyers pay for there items within 7 days. Now About 50 percent either never pay or pay 14-21 days after auction ends! My feedback IS 99.8%
If I filed unpaid on all of those idiot sorry low down buyers they would all leave me a negative! Ruining my Seller account that I have worked so hard to protect.
not to mention the scammers who now discreetly demand money back or free shipping or they will leave you a negative.
So you can take your great opinion of this feedback policy and stick it where the sun don't shine!
Why do I have to be an idiot? if you file an unclaimed, does the guy's feedback still count?
I know this is an old post but for those of you who are trying to find better ways of collecting customer feedback check out a site called Mindshare. They have lots of information on feedback measurements as well as how to create customer loyalty. It has been a great help for me in my own business. Check it out at http://mshare.net.
