The secret to prolific blogging

04/20/09

My blogging friend Tom asked me how I manage to write a post every day, when he finds it difficult to write a couple of posts a week. My father also wanted to know where I find the time to blog, what with me having a family, a full time job (teaching), and a part-time job (Army reserve).

Ihe secret of prolific blogging is simply this: ignore those things in you life which are much more important. Tom, for example, owns his own construction equipment business. He probably wakes up, goes over plans for some digging things or whatever people use to construct, takes care of his workers, looks at "the books." I'm also sure he goes home and does something like talk to his wife.

I, on the other hand, haven't talked to my kids since Obama proposed the stimulus bill. My dog barks at me when I come home. My wife and I keep tabs on each other through Twitter, even though she's in the next room.

Tom, I promise you twice the traffic-- and probably a whole $12.00 a month more in adsense-- if you follow my lead.

Nelson, As you can see, I don't even get to your blog to read it every day. That said, I have a conundrum. I really enjoy reading your blog and hearing your opinion so I want you to continue to write, often. On the other hand I am eternally grateful that I took the time when my kids were of school age to spend lots of time with them. Now I spend lots of time with my wife (mostly in the vineyard, olives and vegetable garden - lots of work!). So naturally, I want you to stop writing and spend the time saved with your family.
Since I don't attempt to make money on my blog (it is only to let off steam), the $12 a month has no appeal. I will continue doing what I am (or less).
Maybe you could do like my son Jeff and just post at certain times, like (in your case) every day but Tuesday. Then you could take the family out to the park or barbeque together or something every Tuesday. My guess is you will remember Tuesdays more than the other days when you get to be a codger like me.
